Rosenfeld Dental Associates
What’s In A Name?
November 3, 2010
During my rewarding 35 year career as a dentist, I have watched members of my profession who chose not to limit their practices to one of the dental specialties attempt to define and redefine themselves by changing the signs in front of their offices. For some time, I played the game. We were “Dentists”, then “Family Dentists”. During the cosmetic revolution, we became “Family and Cosmetic Dentists”. Many years ago, Dr. David Rosenfeld and I decided to define our practice with terms that would never alter. We chose “Caring Contemporary and Cosmetic Dentistry”. “Caring” because that is our mission. “Contemporary” because we are dedicated to practice in a manner consistent with the current valid research with the goal of achieving excellent outcomes. “Cosmetic” because we think that dentistry is at the point where there is no longer a need for unsightly solutions to dental issues. It is the combination of the three that makes our practice unique.
Many of our patients have asked us to define “Contemporary Dentistry“. Contemporary Dentistry is a philosophy of dentistry that is extremely conservative and is dedicated to the prevention of oral disease, and to non surgical and non cutting (non drilling) treatment of damage to teeth and gums caused by disease. It is deeply rooted in evidence based dentistry (dentistry based on findings published in the most prestigious peer reviewed scientific journals) as opposed to traditional dentistry which continues to emphasize treatment over prevention and tooth cutting over more conservative modalities. Contemporary Dentistry utilizes modern technology such as digital impression taking and lasers, and is dedicated to patient comfort and conservation of tooth and gum tissue. It acknowledges the mouth – body connection and is deeply involved in the inter relationship between oral diseases and systemic disease.
Future blogs will deal with the principles and practices of “Contemporary Dentistry” in far greater detail. For now, understand that we are dedicated to excellence, maintaining a healthy beautiful smile, observing the sanctity of the mouth – systemic (body) connection, and providing care that is patient centered and not care that is merely financially advantageous to us.
Dr.Rosenfeld’s Wedding
August 1, 2010
Yesterday, our office team was honored to attend the marriage of Dr. David Rosenfeld to Karen Redler. The joy we all felt for the newlyweds was overwhelming. Beyond that, however I couldn’t help but reflect on all that our team has experienced together. I am privileged to have worked with six of our team members for over twenty years, two others for more than ten, and the others for over five. Since we opened our office in 1979, we have shared the births of our children, their bar and bat mitzvahs, their baptisms, communions, college graduations and their weddings. We have shared each others’ misery as we lost parents and spouses. Yet without this shared experience we would be just another dental office. It is specifically because we have shared so much over the past 32 years that we are more of a family than a staff. Our love for each other enables us not only to provide dental diagnoses and therapies for our patients but a place for all of our patients to feel safe and cared for. As our patient you become part of our family. We look forward to sharing our lives, our kindness, and our commitment to excellence.
Once again, congratulations to Dr. Rosenfeld and Karen.
Ladies Handbags and Oral Care
July 14, 2010
While the American sporting world pays tribute to George Steinbrenner today, following his unfortunate passing yesterday, I, tonight will commemorate the 14th anniversary of my own father’s death. I have been privileged to have some of dentistry’s great minds as my mentors. Dr. Walter Loesche, Dr. Paul Keyes, and Dr. Dan Watt have all inspired me, trained me, and supported me as our office implemented our microscopic monitoring based, non surgical periodontal therapy (gum treatment) program. Some thirty years later we have saved thousands of teeth deemed hopeless by surgically trained periodontists. More importantly, we have given our patients the greatest gift a doctor can give…the ability to care for themselves.
Later posts will deal with some of my other mentors and the impact they have had on our practice, but the time has come to thank and memorialize my greatest mentor of all…my father, Sidney Resnick, may he rest in eternal peace. My dad was not a dentist nor a doctor. He never went to college. He sold ladies handbags and did it well. What he did best, however, was to teach his children dedication, loyalty, compassion, dignity, honesty, and the value of humor. For those of you who were over touched by the human values that have been woven into our practice…thank Sid. I offer my deepest apologies to those of you who we we may have failed to touch with his values and to his loving memory for not having done so.

Hello world!
June 21, 2010
Welcome to our new blog. I will be using this space to inform our patients and the entire web community about exciting new concepts in dentistry and oral care. I invite you all to visit our blog on a regular basis.
I dedicate our first blog two groups of people, our team and our loyal patients. Our team is, in my humble opinion, is the finest, most well trained group of health care and service providers in our state. They are all totally dedicated to our mission of excellence. Four of our team have been with us for over 20 years!! Our hygienists are uniquely trained to serve as co diagnosticians and therapists as we treat periodontal disease in an anti infective, non surgical manner. Our assistants are certified and are skilled in all phases of contemporary dentistry and patient care. Our reception and office staff are always complemented by our patients for their professionalism and kindness.
I will close this first entry by thanking our loyal patients, many of whom we have been helping for over 30 years, for their support. We appreciate their desire to achieve the healthy beautiful smiles we dedicate ourselves to and are so pleased that they choose to refer so many of their close friends and family. My team and our patients make my professional life so gratifying. Thanks so much.
