Microscopic Monitoring Could Help Save Your Smile in Edison, NJ
July 18, 2013
Periodontal disease (also commonly referred to as gum disease) can be tricky. In fact, while a majority of the population suffers from some stage of the condition, many don’t know it in the slightest because they’re not experiencing any noticeable symptoms. The truth is, periodontal often goes untreated until it advances to its more destructive stages, resulting in deterioration and even tooth loss; that’s why it’s so crucial for your dentist to catch and treat it as soon as possible. Thankfully, Drs. Resnick and Rosenfeld take the threat of periodontal disease very seriously; that’s why they’ve invested in a revolutionary technique for discovering its presence early on: microscopic monitoring. With the help of microscopic monitoring, our dedicated dental staff at Resnick and Rosenfeld, DDS in Edison, NJ will be able to ensure the health and happiness of our patients’ smiles for years to come!
What exactly is microscopic monitoring?
Periodontal disease occurs in the mouth because of a bacterial infection; therefore, by routinely sampling our patients for the presence of these pesky germs, our team can confirm the presence of gum disease early on! We simply obtain the sample with a non-invasive, perfectly comfortable procedure and then observe it closely beneath our high-powered microscope.
There are multiple benefits to this process. For one, treatment isn’t delayed until symptoms appear; instead, we can treat your mouth with simple, cleansing procedures that can eliminate dangerous bacteria, essentially saving your smile from any actual damage. Secondly, by undergoing microscopic monitoring, you’ll be sure to save yourself a pretty penny by not having to undergo more invasive therapy. What could be better?

Revitalize Your Smile Seamlessly with Dental Implants in Edison, NJ
July 12, 2013
Losing a tooth to decay or damage can be a devastating blow, both to one’s oral health and their self-confidence. It can be difficult to even leave the house, much less smile with confidence when you’re suffering an unsightly gap, not to mention all the potential oral health problems that can occur because of it, including a heightened risk of gum disease, severe shifting of the other teeth, and even additional tooth loss. Here at Resnick and Rosenfeld, DDS, we want to provide patients in Edison, NJ and beyond with a tooth replacement solution that they can feel proud of – one’s that comfortable, steady, and blends in seamlessly with their natural smile. That’s why we offer dental implants, a relatively new, revolutionary procedure that will help you regain both your confidence and your quality of life.
What sets dental implants apart from other tooth replacement methods?
While other restorative methods such as dentures and bridges only rest atop the gums and replace the crowns of missing teeth, dental implants are the only solution that effectively replicates the entire structure, including the root. This helps keep the jawbone from deteriorating and maintain the health of your mouth as a whole!
Dr. Resnick and Dr. Rosenfeld both work hard to stay up-to-date with all the changes the rapidly growing field of implant dentistry goes through, and they maintain relationships with excellent oral surgeons who can masterfully carry out the first step of the dental implant procedure – the surgical placement of a titanium rod, which will serve as the “root” of the new tooth. Then, once your jaw has had an appropriate time to heal from the procedure, you’ll return to our office where we’ll carefully place your custom-made crown and send you off with a beautiful, revitalized smile!
Contact our Edison, NJ practice today to learn more about the dental implants procedure, or if you’re ready to schedule an appointment! Our team is committed to providing patients with comprehensive, compassionate dental care that puts their comfort first. We also serve the areas of Clark, Plainfield, Scotch Plains, Westfield, and Colonia.
Feel Soothed Instead of Scared in the Dentist’s Chair with the Help of Nitrous Oxide from Drs. Resnick and Rosenfeld
July 9, 2013
If the thought of going to the dentist makes you want to hide under your bed, you’re definitely not alone – a vast majority of Americans report experiencing some level of anxiety or fear when faced with impending dental care. However, it’s important to not let these feelings keep you from pursuing crucial care; after all, any problems you have could end up growing worse, resulting in even longer treatments to restore your smile’s health. Here in Edison, NJ, Drs. Resnick and Rosenfeld are committed to helping patients feel comfortable at all times; that’s why they provide nitrous oxide, a sedation dentistry method that can take the edge off of fear and anxiety, allowing for complete relaxation as our staff works hard to make your pearly whites happier and healthier.
Let the Team at Resnick and Rosenfeld, DDS Rejuvenate Your Smile
Nitrous oxide is often referred to as “laughing gas,” and it’s not hard to understand why! Once administered through a mask that fits over your nose, it induces the patient with feelings of comfort, warmth, and even euphoria in some cases. Is it not having a strong enough effect? No problem! We can easily increase or reduce the amount of gas you’re receiving in order to ensure you feel completely relaxed.
Unlike other sedation dentistry methods, one of the biggest perks of nitrous oxide is that its effects wear off in a matter of minutes. That means you can return to work, run errands, and even drive directly from your appointment – no recovery time required! This is a perfect option for busy patients who can’t sacrifice too much time for dental care.

Banish Bad Breath for Good with Dr. Resnick and Dr. Rosenfeld’s Help
July 3, 2013
While patients can experience a wide variety of problems and complications concerning their oral health over the years, one of the simplest (and most embarrassing) problems would have to be bad breath. Also referred to as halitosis, bad breath is often a humiliating prospect for people with wide social or professional circles, not to mention that it often indicates the presence of more serious oral health problems. Here at Resnick and Rosenfeld, DDS, we don’t want to just correct big dental problems – we want to help you be completely happy with your teeth for life! That’s why below, we’ve provided some helpful tips to combat bad breath:
- First, be sure to attend regular check-ups with Dr. Resnick and Dr. Rosenfeld in Edison, NJ, as well as brush and floss the recommended amount. Cavities and gum disease are common causes of gum disease, and our team can’t quickly and effectively treat these problems once we notice them during a routine appointment. We can also provide you with suggestions for how to improve your daily hygiene routine.
- The tongue is one of the worst places for foul-smelling bacteria to cling and thrive, so one way to help the problem would be to invest in a tongue scraper! This helpful tool can reach the places your toothbrush just can’t clean.
- While they shouldn’t be relied on extensively in place of regular brushing and flossing, using an anti-bacterial mouthwash daily can help add an extra layer of protection against germs.
- Chew sugarless gum!
- Try to avoid foods that contain overly potent odors, such as garlic or onions.
Contact our Edison office today to schedule an appointment! Dr. Resnick, Dr. Rosenfeld, and their dedicated team can’t wait to give you something to smile about. We also welcome patients from the areas of Clark, Plainfield, Scotch Plains, Westfield, Colonia, and beyond.
Learn the Signs of Gum Disease and Get the Thorough Care You Need at Resnick and Rosenfeld, DDS
April 30, 2013
You may be surprised to hear that out of all the dental health issues a person can experience over their lifetime, gum disease is both one of the most common and one of the most destructive conditions. Three out of four Americans today are suffering from some level of the disease, and a large percentage of that number isn’t even aware that they have it in the first place! While gum disease is relatively harmless in its earliest stages, sometimes not even exhibiting any noticeable symptoms, it can quickly progress if left untreated, causing serious pain, inflammation, and even tooth loss. Worse, it can contribute negatively to conditions like diabetes and heart disease. Thankfully, Dr. Resnick and Dr. Rosenfeld take the threat of gum disease very seriously, and our team is committed to doing everything we can to keep your teeth and gums healthy and happy at our Edison, NJ office, which includes keeping our patients well-informed about the possible signs and symptoms of gum disease. These include:
- Bleeding that occurs when brushing or flossing
- Persistent bad breath that isn’t helped by mouthwash
- Red, swollen, or tender gums
- Receding gums (your teeth look longer)
- A sudden change in the way your bite feels
- Loose teeth
Of course, it’s also important to remember that in many cases, gum disease won’t exhibit any symptoms that are visible to an untrained eye. That’s why attending routine check-ups at Resnick and Rosenfeld, DDS is so important. Because periodontal (gum) disease is a bacterial infection, we routinely sample all our patients for the presence of disease-associated bacteria. In this non-invasive procedure, the dentist or hygienist obtains a sample of the bacteria growing under your gum and observes it with the aid of a specially designed phase contrast microscope. This allows us to determine if a patient is harboring bacteria associated with periodontal disease.
If breakdown has already started to occur, the identification of the bacterial problem allows us to treat the disease with the goal of eliminating the cause of the disease: the bacteria. Once the cause is eliminated, the body can heal itself naturally. This technique is completely non-surgical. It is effective even in the most advanced cases; it allows patients to be cured of periodontal disease without the pain, disfigurement, and tooth sensitivity that can follow surgical procedures. Better yet, it is not nearly as costly!
Contact our Edison office today if you’d like to schedule an appointment! Dr. Resnick and Dr. Rosenfeld are here to help you with thorough, personalized dental care that puts patient comfort first. We also are happy to see patients from Clark, Plainfield, Scotch Plains, Westfield, and Colonia.
Recognize Oral Cancer Awareness Month in Edison, NJ
April 24, 2013
April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month, and it’s a great opportunity for our practice to share some important information with our patients about this often-forgotten but incredibly dangerous disease. This year, thousands of Americans will be diagnosed with oral cancer, and only around half of the people currently suffering with the condition will live more than five years. What’s worse is that, while oral cancer is treatable in its earlier stages, most people don’t notice the symptoms or go to see their dentist until it’s already progressed to much more advanced, destructive stages. That’s why attending regular check-ups with Dr. Resnick or Dr. Rosenfeld is so important. Our staff is committed to keeping an eye out for any signs of this condition at our Edison office. It may also help to know what some of the more common symptoms are. Possible signs of oral cancer include:
- Flat, white or red spots or sores inside your mouth
- A sore that bleeds and doesn’t show signs of healing
- A small, eroded area, lump, crust, or thickening in the mouth
- A color change in your oral tissue
- Excessive pain, tenderness, or numbness in the mouth or lips
However, while these symptoms are important to keep in mind, we want you to remember that our team at Resnick and Rosenfeld, DDS is your first line of defense against oral cancer. Routine check-ups every six months will give Drs. Resnick and Rosenfeld a chance to thoroughly inspect your cheeks, gums, palate and tongue for any suspicious areas. We will also thoroughly examine your neck for any warning signs of cancer or infection.
While some patients who are diagnosed with oral cancer are heavy tobacco/alcohol users, nearly a fourth of affected people don’t participate in any known risk factors. That’s why we invite you to come in to our Edison office so we can ensure that you stay healthy and happy for years to come. Contact us to schedule an appointment! We also serve the areas of Clark, Plainfield, Scotch Plains, Westfield, and Colonia.
Protect Your Teeth with Precise Root Canal Therapy in Edison, NJ
March 27, 2013
While tooth loss is a dental problem that many patients fear, the thought of undergoing root canal treatment to save the affected pearly white is often scarier. The truth is, while the procedure may have once been incredibly painful and uncomfortable one, today’s modern technology, anesthesia and advanced tools have made the panic many patients undergo about it completely unnecessary. In fact, root canal therapy has an incredibly high success rate; it can help rescue injured or decayed teeth that would otherwise need to be extracted! At Resnick and Rosenfeld DDS, our team wants nothing more than to help you maintain a perfectly healthy and whole smile for years to come. That’s why we’re happy to offer root canal treatment right here at our Edison, NJ practice!
What exactly is a root canal?
When a tooth is seriously injured or decayed, it can allow damaging bacteria access into its inner canals, which then infects the nerves (often referred to as ‘pulp) as well. This disease can even spread to other healthy teeth if left untreated! Thankfully, with the help of root canal treatment, Dr. Resnick or Dr. Rosenfeld can create an opening in the affected tooth, clean out the bacteria and infected pulp, and thoroughly seal the area so that further bacteria can’t find a way in. In order to restore full functionality to the tooth, we usually also create a custom-made crown as a finishing touch.
Our Edison, NJ practice is committed to providing maximum comfort and relaxation to patients during root canal treatments by combining the most modern techniques with a biomedical perspective. In fact, most root canal treatments can now be completed in a single visit!
Don’t let infection destroy your hard-earned smile – with Dr. Resnick and Dr. Rosenfeld’s help, our team can use root canal treatment to keep your teeth healthy and happy! Contact our Edison office today with any questions you may have root canal treatment, or if you’re ready to schedule an appointment. We also serve the areas of Clark, Plainfield, Scotch Plains, Westfield, and Colonia.

Keep Your Smile Safe during Sports with a Mouthguard from Resnick and Rosenfeld DDS
February 25, 2013
Helmets, goggles, kneepads – if you or your child plays sports, you’ve surely heard about all the protective gear needed to keep the more fragile parts of your body safe from accidental harm. But did you know that 13% to 39% of all dental injuries each year happen during a sport? It isn’t just the scary collisions you see in football and hockey causing them, either – crucial damage to your teeth can be caused by all kinds of sports, from swimming to bicycling to playing volleyball. Your smile is surely important to you – shouldn’t you protect it the same way you do other parts of your body? After all, you definitely don’t want to see the crowd at one of your events gawking at your missing teeth! That’s why Drs. Resnick and Rosenfeld recommend that mouthguards should be worn by both adults and children who regularly participate in any kind of sport that could result in injury to the mouth. With the help of a mouthguard from our Edison, NJ office, our team can help you keep participating free-free in your favorite activities while ensuring your teeth stay happy and healthy.
What is a mouthguard?
A mouthguard is a piece of gear that fits over your teeth and protects them from direct damage, along with the tongue and jaw. Studies have even shown that mouthguards help to lessen the severity of concussions.
There are different kinds of mouthguards available, including:
- Ready-made mouthguards are the kinds you would find on the shelf in any sports store. They’re inexpensive, but since they’re not specifically designed to fit your mouth, they’re often uncomfortable and can even make speaking difficult.
- Mouth-formed mouthguards are much more flexible and secure, but they tend to harden over time.
- Custom-made mouthguards are created after a detailed impression is taken of your teeth, and are widely regarded to be the most comfortable choice.
Be sure to talk to Dr. Resnick or Dr. Rosenfeld before selecting a mouthguard. They will be happy to make a recommendation that bests fits your unique situation and smile.
Our dedicated team is happy to provide you with effective, personalized care that puts your needs first each and every time you come in. Don’t let worry over your teeth keep you from playing to the best of your ability – call our Edison office today for more information about mouthguards. We also serve Clark, Plainfield, Scotch Plains, Westfield, Colonia and surrounding areas. We’d love to give you a reason to smile!
